EMPAC presents some cool music - Arts Talk - Capital Region arts ...

As if a solo night of John Zorn wasn?t enough, EMPAC follows Tuesday?s show with another night of fearless music, solo style.

Canadian baritone saxophonist Colin Stetson leads an indelible evening of adventurous performances, which also includes spotlight sets by multi-instrumentalist Tyshawn Sorey and Arcade Fire fiddler Sarah Neufeld. Each will perform alone, charting new territories as they go.

Stetson?s remarkable ?New History Warfare Vol. 2: Judges,? recorded ?with no overdubs or looping, using 24 different mic positions,? was one of the purest, most transcendent delights of last year?s jazz offerings ? falling somewhere between new age and art terrorism.

Those who keep complaining that nothing cool happens in this town really need to have their heads examined.
